Newsletter: Paper or Electronic?

Q: We are an established business and know we need a monthly newsletter. Should we create a paper newsletter as we have in the past or go electronic?
A: Think green and go electronic. Programs such as Mad Mimi and Constant Contact make it easy to create and distribute your message, month in and month out. But send the newsletter only when you have something interesting to share and make it visually appealing--you will be competing with many other newsletters so give your viewers every reason to tune into your message. If you don’t have marketing personnel, get help with establishing a graphic template and providing an approach to content that is helpful to your audience. Once you have the visuals and communications approach in place, you can assign the development and production of the monthly newsletter to internal personnel, supported by marketing professionals as needed. If you don’t have a database of email addresses, promote the electronic newsletter on your website and other venues, inviting customers, prospects, and others to sign up for your electronic newsletter, leading to a helpful, permission-based electronic relationship.
